Guide Getting Started

How are contractors verified?

The exact verification process NeedReno uses to vet licences, insurance, and identity before a contractor can receive a single lead.

Trust is the entire point of a contractor marketplace. Anyone can print a business card; not everyone can prove they are licensed and insured. Verification is the layer that removes the two most expensive hiring risks before a contractor can receive a single lead. Here is exactly how it works.

What every contractor must prove

Before a contractor can be matched to real projects, they submit documentation that our team reviews by hand. Three things must check out:

📜

Business licence

A valid licence for the work they do. It signals they have met a baseline standard and their work is more likely to pass inspection.

🛡️

Liability insurance

Current coverage that protects you if a worker is injured on your property or your home is damaged during the job.

🪪

Identity

Government-issued ID confirming the person behind the business is who they say they are.

How the review works

Documents submitted

The contractor uploads their licence, certificate of insurance, and identity during onboarding.

Hand review

Our team checks the documents — that they are valid, current, and match the business. This is people, not just software.

Verified badge granted

Once approved, a verified badge appears on the contractor's public profile for homeowners to see.

Eligible for leads

Only now can the contractor be matched to real projects. No verification, no leads.

Verified renovation contractor profile with credentials
A verified badge appears on a contractor profile only after a hand review of licence, insurance, and identity.

Why this protects you

The two costliest renovation mistakes both come down to trust. Hiring someone uninsured can leave you personally liable if a worker is hurt on your property. Hiring someone unlicensed can leave you with work that fails inspection or must be torn out and redone. Verification quietly removes both risks before you ever compare a quote, so the pros you are choosing between have already cleared the bar.

About unclaimed listings

Some profiles are created from public business information and have not yet been claimed by their owner. They are clearly marked as unclaimed and are never matched to your projects. Only claimed, verified contractors receive leads.

Hire from a vetted pool

Every matched contractor has passed a hand review of licence, insurance, and identity.
