Accessible Bathroom Renovation Gave My Mom Her Independence Back

J
James T. · Vancouver, BC
$18,500 project

After my mother's hip replacement surgery last spring, it became clear her main bathroom was no longer safe for her to use independently. The tub was a fall risk, the vanity was the wrong height, and there were no grab bars anywhere.

I found NeedReno through a search for aging-in-place contractors and submitted a project. Within a day I had two quotes from contractors with specific accessibility renovation experience — something I hadn't found when searching on my own.

Pacific Accessible Homes was exceptional. They installed a barrier-free walk-in shower with a built-in bench, reinforced the walls for grab bars, raised the toilet height, and replaced the vanity with a wheelchair-accessible unit. They were respectful of my mother's privacy and always left the home clean at the end of each day.

The project took eight days. My mom cried when she saw the finished bathroom. She can now shower safely on her own for the first time since her surgery. That's priceless. I can't recommend NeedReno highly enough for finding specialized contractors.
